in-home family photos document a personal story

There is so much you can do when planning an in-home family session. Your home is a place of chaos, peace and a lot of in-between moments that seem to fly by as quickly as the days do. An in-home family photo session is perfect for your family for this exact same reason.

I often get asked why do I like home sessions when we live in the Pacific Northwest, with its stunning landscapes at every corner? The answer is two-fold. 1) Here in Seattle, the weather can get unpredictable in the Spring, Fall and Winter. That leaves us within the safety of a Seattle summer. While summers are generally easy to plan for weather, sometimes it can get too hot for the outdoors or with forest fires, too smoky. An in-home session keeps it all light, easy and predictable for all of us.

2) The second reason why I love in-home family photography is because every family's home tells a story. There is never any requirement that your home look magazine-ready. I love the alive energy people's homes have and I feel like documenting you in the place you spend the most time with your kids and pets, makes for a story like no other.

in-home family photo sessions are naturally candid

Being at home is being in the space where you and your family feel the most safety. Should you choose to do an in-home family session, there will be a part of you that want to remember the candid nature of your family during this time. Your can take a look at the activity list above and see if it strikes any inspiration for what you want to do during your family photo session. If nothing sticks out, as your Seattle family photographer I want you to know that I can guarantee you will have great photos just by having me around to document a day or a couple of hours in your life.

dressing for in-home family photos

I recommend keeping it comfortable when considering what to wear for a Seattle in-home family session. If you're the mom or one of the parent cares more about their outfit, I ask that that person chooses their outfit first and ties the rest of the family's outfit to that choice. Keep it easy by choosing light flowy dresses, khakis, sweaters (for texture), Henleys, crew neck pullovers, neutral coloured t-shirts, matching family pajamas - are some ideas. Try to avoid clothes with logos or in bright colours, unless that is your family vibe. I send out a "what to wear" guide for every booked family photo session so if you have questions, I can help you with styling before your session.
